Look up from the beach and the hills are covered in vines. The slopes above Batroun have quietly become one of Lebanon's most exciting wine regions, and the town at their feet brews the beer to match.

IXSIR

A world-champion rosé

Founded in 2008 above Batroun in Basbina, IXSIR wraps a seventeenth-century stone house in a modern, low-impact winery, farming some of the highest vineyards in the northern hemisphere. In 2021 its Grande Réserve Rosé was named Best Rosé of the World.

Colonel

Lebanon's first microbrewery

In the summer of 2014, Colonel opened in the centre of Batroun by the sea, the first microbrewery in the country. It brews its beer a stone's throw from the beach where it serves it, and helped turn Batroun into a summer destination.

IXSIR is not alone. The Batroun Mountains have become their own appellation, with estates like Coteaux de Botrys and others working the slopes. Coastal whites, structured reds, and a view of the Mediterranean from almost every vineyard.
